All Nigerian states to train 1000 teachers in Jolly Phonics – UBEC
Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Mandates all Nigerian States to Use Jolly Phonics
Universal Learning Solutions’ work to transform English literacy levels in Nigeria received a huge boost this week when the Executive Secretary of UBEC – Dr Dikko Sulieman – mandated all states to train a minimum of 1000 teachers in the Jolly Phonics methodology.
Speaking in Kaduna at a two-day meeting for State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) directors and desk officers in charge of Teacher Professional Development, Dr Sulieman expressed UBEC’s full support for the Jolly Phonics programme, which is delivered by Universal Learning Solutions.
This is a significant achievement for Universal Learning Solutions and highlights how Universal Learning Solutions’ work is now moving into an important new developmental stage in Nigeria where the government is increasingly taking ownership of the project. This further substantiates our firm belief that our model, which harnesses the core strengths of the private philanthropic, academic, not-for-profit and government sectors, offers a tangible, and more sustainable, alternative to the provision of overseas aid.
Universal Learning Solutions looks forward to working with UBEC and all states in Nigeria in 2016 to further embed the Jolly Phonics methodology in the Nigerian education system and further transform English literacy levels across the country.
